Holiday Home Ownership Scheme Launched
Consumers Rights Championed Via New NCC Initiative

The NCC has launched a new initiative that ensures holiday home buyers and owners are treated fairly and enjoy a greater level of consumer protection than the minimum required by law.

The NCC Approved Holiday Park – Holiday Home Ownership scheme has been launched by the National Caravan Council and covers the purchase and sale of new and pre owned holiday homes and the agreement to occupy a pitch on a holiday park.

The NCC scheme establishes an important benchmark for holiday parks offering holiday home ownership and aims to promote best practice and raise standards of professionalism and customer service across the industry.

At the heart of the scheme is a Consumer Code of Practice, which is modelled on the Office of Fair Trading consumer code criteria. The Code establishes the standard, which is then monitored and policed through the scheme. Before an NCC member Park can achieve ‘Approved’ status they must undergo a rigorous independent assessment that reviews their operations against the Code.

The key benefits to consumers of choosing to buy from an NCC Approved member Park are that the Park will:

  • operate to industry best practice and maintain high standards of professionalism and customer care
  • provide a greater level of consumer protection than is required by law
  • deal in an open, honest and fair manner
  • commit to delivering high standards of customer satisfaction

The first park groups to achieve ‘NCC Approved’ status are Away Resorts Ltd, Bourne Leisure Ltd, Haulfryn Group Ltd, Hoburne Ltd, Parkdean Holidays Ltd, Park Holidays UK Ltd, Park Resorts Ltd and White Horse Caravan Company Ltd. Combined, these groups represent 160 parks and around a third of all UK owner occupied pitches.
